Fitwel v2.1 Recognizes Importance of Indoor Air Quality; Cites RESET Air as Strategy

July 16th, 2019 00:00

In early June, the Center for Active Design released Fitwel v2.1, a major update to the certification system which synthesized the ongoing review of the global evidence base with industry feedback from their first two years on the market. Fitwel v2.1 brings users a system-wide pathway for new construction projects, as well as new and updated scorecards covering retail, multifamily, and workplace properties. v2.1 also introduces the Fitwel Communities pilot, expanding Fitwel's health-promoting strategies to a broader population.

This update includes the addition of several new strategies that are based in evidence and designed to help project teams approach health holistically and discover new tactics for influencing occupant well-being. Recognizing the critical importance that air quality has on health, the updated scorecards more heavily focus on setting an Indoor Air Quality Policy and performing follow up testing and monitoring.

Given the science based and rigorous approach of RESET Air, Fitwel’s air quality strategies for monitoring recognize RESET Air certification and RESET Air monitors. Jointly, Fitwel and RESET will help to ensure air quality remains optimal over time, contributing to enhanced respiratory and mental health.

According to Anjanette Green, Director, Standards Development, RESET,

"With its straight-forward and science-based approach, Fitwel continues to prove that a certification program doesn't need to be complicated or overly taxing in order to encourage real change. With a shared objective of improving the built environment for the betterment of all, RESET Air is honored to be included again in the Fitwel Standard as they progress into version 2.1 and new building typologies. By referencing RESET Air, project teams are able to rely on RESET's core intent which is standardizing the collection and reporting of data that can be analyzed, quantified and communicated in meaningful ways. For Fitwel projects, having this level of ongoing, operational data makes perfect sense."
