Becoming a RESET™ AP | Craig Stevenson, Auros Group

In these new series of articles RESET introduces pioneers from across the globe who have taken up the mission of creating healthier buildings. These individuals have not just decided to become AP’s (Accredited Professionals) themselves, but have extended the standard to their employees, clients and partners, while also integrating it within their core business offerings.

Here’s what Craig Stevenson, President, Auros Group, has to say.

What made you decide to pursue becoming a RESET Air Accredited Professional?
AUROS Group uses technology to achieve ultra-low energy and ultra-high indoor air quality in new buildings and in deep retrofits of existing buildings. We are located in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, which is becoming well known in the US as a city where our government leaders, our business leaders and our nonprofits are aligned to reaching carbon neutrality by 2030. There is no lack of money or interest, in Western Pennsylvania, to drive buildings to zero energy. What’s been lacking is the accountability to move from designing high performing buildings to operating high performance buildings.

AUROS Group’s mantra is “evidence-based performance”. RESET Air is one of just a few standards that drives evidence-based performance into the operations of buildings. RESET Air is changing the way building owners and occupants talk about indoor air quality. As a result, we require all of our employees to become RESET Air Accredited Professionals.

What makes the RESET Air Standard different?
AUROS Group exists to design, build and operate the highest performing buildings at the lowest possible cost. AUROS360 uses Passive House strategies to create a high performance envelope that simultaneously enables ultra-low energy and ultra-high indoor air quality. While Passive House provides solutions to reach ultra-low energy; RESET Air provides solutions to reach ultra-high indoor air quality.

The reasons RESET Air is our go-to for indoor air quality are two-fold: 1) the standard defines for owners aspirational, but achievable goals for indoor air quality, and 2) the protocols for continuous monitoring are unique to most standards.

The days of inaccessible building automation systems, manual calculations, consumer-based meters and sensors, single point-in-time audits and tests are gone. Owners who standardize around RESET Air have the confidence and trust necessary to invest in indoor air quality.

“Right now, every project in our pipeline is pursuing either partial or full RESET Air Certification,” said Craig Stevenson, President of AUROS Group.

About Craig Stevenson

Craig Stevenson is based in Pittsburgh, PA, and is widely known for his role in establishing Pittsburgh as a leader in "Evidence-based Performance" for the built environment. Evidence-based Performance uses technology to bridge the gap between "hoping" a building is performing as designed to "knowing" a building is meeting its performance goals. Craig is credentialed in virtually all known building performance standards. As a result, Craig focuses solely on owner's performance requirements for their building(s).

Using cutting-edge technology, Craig and his AUROS360 capabilities ensure owners balance building performance goals with construction costs and long-term operating costs. Craig sits on the City of Pittsburgh Clean Tech Roundtable and P4 Performance Measures Committee. Craig is a founding member and Vice President of the Passive House Western Pennsylvania organization. Craig is also a committee member with the AIA+2030 Committee on the Environment and is on the host committee for Getting to Zero National forum organized by Rocky Mountain Institute and New Building Institute. Craig is currently a Principal of the AUROS Group.

Clients using AUROS360 will see, on average a 50% reduction in energy consumption, 40% reduced carbon emissions and a significant improvement in indoor environmental quality, often with no increase in first costs. We do this by integrating and digitally connecting planning tools to operating dashboards. With integrated targets, owners know at occupancy if a building is performing to financial expectations. Whether you want the highest performing building at the lowest cost or you want Zero Energy in the most affordable way, AUROS360 is designed to provide the pathway to data driven decision making.
