In these new series of articles, ‘Becoming a RESET AP’, RESET introduces pioneers from across the globe who have taken up the mission of creating healthier buildings. These individuals have not just decided to become AP’s (or Accredited Professionals) themselves, but have also extended the certification to their employees, clients and partners, but also integrated it in their business offerings.

Here’s what Mohammad H. Abbasi, Building Performance Analyst at WSP (Chicago), has to say.

What made you decide to pursue becoming a RESET Air Accredited Professional?
RESET Air is a standard that I have been waiting for. It is a performance-based certification with a focus on one aspect of sustainability and health which effective. Becoming a RESET Air AP isn’t simply memorizing some requirements, guides and passing an exam, it is a process to gain true knowledge of the impacts of air quality, making you an expert in the field. In other words, By achieving RESET Air accreditation, you are not only recognized as a professional of a specific certification program but you are also an expert in air quality and its impacts on human health. Moreover, I believe RESET Air certification is the most integrative certification program, requiring a properly trained AP to carry through a project from pre-design phase to post-occupancy. Having a RESET Air AP on board is an absolute must to help ensure achievement of certification.

What makes the RESET Air Standard different?
The RESET Air Standard is to-the-point and has almost zero redundancy in the process and language. A combination of prescriptive and performance requirements, push project teams to engage in the certification process through all phases of design and operations to ensure the project goals are met. Considering the billions of people suffering from poor indoor and outdoor air quality, RESET Air is targeting a real problem with more feasible solutions and better accessibility for everyone.

With clear metric goals in the RESET Air Standard and supportive air quality research, you can easily provide solid analysis for clients on the incremental costs of poor air quality, and demonstrating a payback for the cost of certification.
